Trophy Care

Proper care in the field helps protect your trophy and gives us the best starting point for quality taxidermy. Follow the instructions below for game heads, birds, and fish before bringing your trophy to the shop.

Gameheads

To field dress the animal, stop the incision at the breast
bone, leaving enough skin required for a shoulder mount.
To remove the cape, start by making a cut around the
body, 12" behind front legs. Make a cut around each front
leg at the knee. From your cut around the knee, make
a cut on the back side of the leg, where the brown hair
meets the white hair, to the arm pit. From the arm pit,
make a cut straight back to the body cut. From the body
cut. start skinning the deer towards the head, rolling the
skin flesh side out. When you reach the base of the head.
sever the neck. If cape cannot be brought to me right
away, put in plastic bag and freeze.

Birds

Again, care in the field is a must. Badly shot up birds, because of the skin structure, can make them impossible to repair. Never gut a bird. If it cannot be brought in right away, place in plastic bag being careful to keep the feathers straight, then freeze.

Fish

Do not gut fish. As soon as possible, bring in the fish or freeze it by wrapping in cloth or paper towel, wet fish and towel and place in plastic bag, then freeze.
